For those not familiar with the concept of Toy or Egg Runs: the Group currently meets at The Beach Boulevard at 1230 midday for 1300 kickoff on the Sunday before Christmas/Easter. We then follow a pre-determined route and visit all the Care Homes within Aberdeen and environs, and conclude the run at the Sick Childrens Hospital. We appreciate the weather is not always kind on these occasions, but the children really appreciate our visits, and we are always met with smiles and grateful thanks. Some of us wear fancy dress - in 2005 we had 3 Santa’s which confused some of the ‘wee ones’ in the Sick Kids, but again, is most appreciated!
The Toy Run is usually held on a Sunday before Christmas. MAG are happy to accept gifts from members of the public ‘on the day’ but would request that they be wrapped and ‘tagged’ with details of the age group for which it is suitable, and whether it is intended for a boy or a girl. We would also request that no more than £5-10 be spent on any one gift.
Most of the kids in care in Aberdeen/shire are in the age range of 12-16, but this is not always the case.
In the past we have had support from local companies whereby they have generously gifted money to be used towards the purchase of gifts in advance of the Toy Run, thus enabling us to cater for the older children - we would always encourage and welcome such donations.
